Alec Baldwin sues crew members

Alec Baldwin is on the defensive, with the actor now pressing charges against several members of the Rust crew. Baldwin recently settled a civil lawsuit with the family of the film’s DP, Halyna Hutchins, who was sadly shot and killed on Rust set when a “cold” Colt.45 revolver the actor was handling fired. Since then, Baldwin’s career has been in the doldrums, with him stating he’s been fired from multiple projects since the incident, and now he’s accusing multiple crew members of wrongdoing on set.

According to TMZ, Baldwin’s lawsuit puts the blame for the shooting in the hands of chief gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, Dave Halls (the assistant director), Sarah Zachry (the props master) and the gunsmith. Seth Kenney arms. The lawsuit states: “Gutierrez-Reed did not check the bullets or the gun carefully, Halls did not check the gun carefully and yet announced that the gun was safe before handing it to Baldwin, and Zachry did not disclose that Gutierrez-Reed had acted recklessly off the set and was a safety risk to those around him.

According to Deadline, the lawsuit goes on to state that Baldwin lost numerous jobs as a result of the incident, with many holding him responsible for the crash. The lawsuit states, “More than anyone on this set, Baldwin was wrongly considered the author of this tragedy.”

Whether or not this tactic will backfire remains to be seen. However, it should not be forgotten that many lawsuits are circulating concerning the Rust filming, including one from script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, whom Baldwin recently failed to get removed. Criminal charges could also be filed at some point. However, Rust is set to resume production in 2023, with the full blessing of the Halyna Hutchins estate.
