Disney is preparing “Princess Diaries 3”

the beloved princess diaries series returns, after more than a decade of inactivity. It will be the third film in the franchise, after 2001. The Diary of a Princess and 2004 The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. At this time, key original cast member – Anne Hathaway – is not confirmed to reappear in this sequel. But she’s definitely interested.

During an interview with entertainment tonight, Anne Hathaway was briefly asked about the series and shared the following. She said, “I would do more than entertain him, I shoot for it. If there’s a way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we’ll make it work. While it would be great to see them back together on screen, the lack of the late Garry Marshall in the director’s chair would undoubtedly be felt.

Although the films didn’t exactly excel critically, they were a bit of a phenomenon across the United States, especially for their target demographic of young girls. For those unfamiliar with the plot, the series tells the story of Mia Thermopolis, a teenage girl who discovers she is secretly a long-lost princess. Of course, being king is harder than it looks, and it’s not just dancing and waving. Both films did better than expected at the box office and also played a major role in kick-starting Anne Hathaway’s career.

As of now, there’s no indication of when the film might be expected. That being said, we know (for Variety) that Aadrita Mukerji is writing the script. It’s not yet known if Julie Andrews would be involved either, but supposedly the script is for a “threequel” that would continue the story of The Diary of a Princess and Royal engagementrather than some kind of reboot.
