Long before there was a Marvel Cinematic Universe, there were attempts to make movies based on Namor the Submarine, who is one of Marvel’s oldest and most complex superheroes. A Namor the film was under consideration as early as the late 90s; filmmakers like Philip Kaufman and Chris Columbus have been involved at various times during its long stay in development hell.
Obviously the movie never happened and now the character will be joining the MCU as an antagonist in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where he is interpreted by Tenoch Huerta Mejía. It may be hard to believe, but the actor has a lot would have be interested in following his Marvel debut in wakanda forever with a solo film by Namor.
In an interview with Digital Spy, he answered a question about whether fans will soon get a Namor film with “I would like to but I don’t know”.
It depends on what Kevin Feige says he wants. It depends on the inbox. It depends on the people and how many tickets they buy. So please: buy lots of tickets.
Maybe wakanda forever will be a huge hit and audiences will really react to Namor, who is a central figure in the film. It is not impossible that Namor could have his own film. (A Disney+ show seems like too expensive a proposition.) But I think Namor’s fate probably lies more in his appearance in other Marvel projects, like the upcoming one. Avengers: Kang Dynasty Where The Fantastic Four. Namor has a history with both teams, and his fiery personality always makes him work well in group dynamics.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters this Friday.
