Yesterday we shared information about the victim characters that will be playable in the JChainsaw Massacre video game developed by Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham. Now is the time to learn more about the killer characters, which not only include Leatherface, the cook and the hitchhiker from the original Chain saw movie (watch it HERE), but also recently introduced new characters Johnny and Sissy. Cards that give character information can be seen at the bottom of this article, and the developers have also dug up their abilities and attributes on the game’s official site.
The developers revealed,
A bit like on the Victim side, everyone has a job to do, a role to fill in the composition of each match. Whether it’s Seek, Hunt, Trap, Bane, or Mayhem, taking down victims is a specific job, and one that this cast of maniacs are exceptionally skilled at. They also all have their trade-offs, their own little shortcomings that help balance the whole, making teamwork much more effective while still being possible, albeit a bit more difficult, to approach things the way of a lone wolf. Also similar to how the victim side is structured, this can all be customized through the metagame, where players can tune the family to their liking.
Family attributes fall into three categories: savagery, harvest, and endurance. These attributes differ depending on which family member you are playing with and can be tuned to your liking by unlocking attribute points in the skill tree and assigning them to one of three categories. In addition to attribute points, some skill tree perks will also buff an attribute category by equipping it, but more on perks once we cover the full metagame. For now, let’s talk about the three main categories of attributes.
Savagery: This attribute directly affects the amount of damage you deal in melee, but shouldn’t be viewed as mere strength. Think of savagery as a skill level for killing in the game, used in conjunction with stamina as a way to determine full potential damage output.
Harvest: Harvest affects the amount of blood you earn for Grandpa when interacting with kills. However, this does not affect the amount of blood from buckets around the map. Melee hits, kill grabs, and executions are the specific interactions that can fill your blood flask, depending on your harvest stat.
Stamina: Similar to the Kills attribute, Stamina affects stamina drain and recharge rate. On the family side, however, melee strikes also drain stamina, making the Stamina attribute important for dealing damage as well as mobility.
So you see that these attributes all work together to make up the type of killer that a family member is. Considering you can’t attack with no stamina left in the pool, savagery and stamina are connected in an interesting way. Mix in the fact that your harvest rating will affect how much blood you come away with after each altercation and you can start to see how the balance is formed with our cannibal cast.
The special abilities that killers will have are:
The Cook: SEARCH
The search ability allows the cook to lean over and listen carefully for any strange sounds they might hear on the map. If sound is detected, it can focus on it, revealing the location of the victim unfortunate enough to make the most noise.
Sissy has acquired unique skills during her travels, such as her Bane ability. Craft poisons from local plants, then blow the powder into victims’ faces or use them to contaminate objects around the map.
The hitchhiker: TRAP
The hitchhiker is handy with a bunch of bones and his trap ability is an extension of that. The macabre artist can place traps around the map that alert him when an unsuspecting victim intervenes.
Johnny is a stalker, a predator, and like any true predator, he is a skilled hunter. His hunting ability allows him to see and track the new footsteps of victims on the map.
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Leatherface carries the saw, the saw is the mutilation ability. He can use it in a variety of ways, including dismembering any victims he could get his hands on.
The matches of Chainsaw Massacre video game will pit 4 victim characters against 3 killer characters. The game’s story takes place before the events of the original film and has the following setup:
When Maria Flores went missing and local law enforcement seemed to stall in their search, her younger sister Ana teamed up with some of Maria’s college friends to track down the trail. It’s time for you to meet our cast of victims.
The cast that has been assembled to bring the Chainsaw Massacre characters from the video game to life include genre icon Kane Hodder, who does the motion capture performance for Leatherface; Edwin Neal, providing the voice of the Hitchhiker, the character he played in the original Chainsaw Massacre; more Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), Kristina Klebe (Don’t kill him), Sean Whalen (people under the stairs) and Damien Maffei (Foreigners: prey to Night).
