Despite all the upheaval and change behind the scenes at Warner Bros. Discovery, it appears (keyword appears) that HBO Max is still moving forward with a TV show featuring the version of DC villain the Penguin, played by Colin Farrell in the recent film The Batman. Farrell himself recently said he read the script for the first episode and described the whole series as very “unusual”. (Well, yeah. Not too many comic book super-villain TV shows!)
As for when we can expect this show, HBO Max Originals Manager Sarah Aubrey said Variety that the series takes place “immediately after the end of The Batman” and before the planned big screen events The Batman after. She added:
The show will be released between the two films. Now, beyond that, it’s fun for audiences to know that this will be a bridge between the two, but the actual release date, I’m not at liberty to say.
In The Batman, Oswald Cobblepot runs the Iceberg Lounge, a Gotham City nightclub affiliated with the Falcone crime family. Rather than screeching like a bird and zapping Batman with rigged umbrellas, he’s more of an intriguing underworld figure. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with being a screaming, umbrella-waving supervillain if that’s who you are. It was just a different, darker take on the character, because pretty much everything in The Batman has been.
HBO Max has yet to announce an official release date for its Penguin series or Batman 2.
