Made on a budget of less than $1 million, the mystery thriller Research (read our review HERE), which ran entirely on computer and smartphone screens, grossed over $75 million at the worldwide box office. It’s no wonder, then, that a sequel was given the green light… but since this was only going to be a sequel in name, it’s also not terribly surprising that it received a title change in road course. There “Research next” is called Faded awayand it was scheduled to hit theaters on February 24, 2023. Deadline reports that it has now been brought forward to the new release date of January 20, 2023.
Field details of Faded away are kept secret. We know movie stars Storm Reid (The invisible Man) and Nia Long (NCIS: Los Angeles).
Faded away was produced by Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick, the editors of Researchfrom a script they wrote, from a story provided by Research writer/director Aneesh Chaganty and co-writer Sev Ohanian. Chaganty and Ohanian also produced the film alongside Natalie Qasabian, with Timur Bekmambetov, Adam Sidman and Jo Henriquez serving as executive producers.
The shift in the release date allows Faded away to avoid competition from the universal version cocaine bear and Lionsgate jesus revolution. The only other large-scale release scheduled for January 20 is “an untitled Crunchy Roll movie.”
Research had the following synopsis: David Kim becomes desperate when his 16-year-old daughter, Margot, goes missing and an immediate police investigation leads nowhere. He soon decides to search the one place no one else has: Margot’s laptop. Hoping to find his digital fingerprints, David contacts his friends and looks at photos and videos for any possible clues to his whereabouts..
